RECREATIONAL SUMMER CLASSES (8 WEEKS)

MY GROWN UP & ME (18 - 35 MONTHS)

45 minute classes for our youngest dancers, from 18 to 35 months of age. July 9th through to August 27th, 1 class per week for 8 weeks. If registration is submitted after the start date, tuition will be prorated.

My Grown Up & Me offers a pre-introduction to dance, intended to ease your child into a more traditional classroom setting. Involvement requires a parent/guardian to play an integral role, taking part in class, providing comfort and modelling participation for their little one. These lessons will introduce valuable skills such as listening, taking turns, and following directions, encouraging children to develop both individually and socially in a fun, creative environment.

MINI & JUNIOR (3 & 4 YEARS OLD)

45 minute classes for our 3 & 4 year old dancers. July 4th through to August 22nd, every Tuesday for 8 weeks. If registration is submitted after the start date, tuition will be prorated.

Our Mini and Junior programs are designed to impart the basics of dance while encouraging students to explore their imagination and musicality. As we strive to enhance motor skills and creativity, children will move to music and learn introductory techniques, developing the foundations of dance. The use of props and creative movement activities will add elements of fun and play, all while improving balance, coordination, listening skills, and teamwork. Through proper encouragement and positive guidance, students will be offered every opportunity to discover a lifelong love of dance.

SUMMER HIGHLAND WORKSHOPS

For three days in August, students will explore the traditional and national dances of Scotland! Highland teaches self-discipline, confidence, and motivation, making it one of the best training grounds for success. An ancient form of dance that requires both stamina and strength, highland remains extremely popular throughout the world. 5+ years of age, primary to premier, introductory classes available (no experience necessary).

SKILL LEVELS/AGES (5+ YEARS OF AGE)

Selecting a highland class can be somewhat confusing--it is often difficult to judge which skill level is the most appropriate. For instance, "Beginner" is not intended for absolute beginners! If you are unsure of which class/level to enroll in, please contact the studio for assistance.

Highland classes are not generally structured by age group. Beyond the Intro (introductory) and Primary levels, a student is placed based on their knowledge of specific dances. While some classes feature age ranges, most do not. Again, should you have any questions, please contact the studio at 250-564-6326 or email studio@excaliburarts.com.

SUMMER HIGHLAND (AUGUST 21st - 23rd)

Three-day sessions featuring highland lessons for all skill levels. Note the age groups: 5 & 6 years for Intro Primary and Primary, 7-12 years for Intro Highland. If your student has no prior highland dance experience, please select the age appropriate Intro class.

[NEW!] SUMMER HIGHLAND CLASSES (8 WEEKS)

Scheduled lessons throughout July and August, meeting once per week at the indicated times. Beginner/Novice Highland, July 4th to August 22nd (Tues) and/or July 6th to August 24th (Thurs), 1 class per week for 8 weeks. If registration is submitted after the start date, tuition will be prorated.

These classes assume some prior experience, they are not intended for absolute beginners. As always, if you are unsure of your highland dancer's current skill level, please contact the studio for assistance prior to registration.

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED SUMMER INTENSIVES

Programs to engage the well-rounded, experienced performer. Designed to engage both body and mind, these sessions will challenge the serious student with new techniques to deepen their appreciation for the art of dance. 9-17 years of age. Prior dance training is required (minimum 3 years).

Under the instruction of our accomplished guest artists, Maggie Trepanier and Airah Truant, this unique program explores a variety of disciplines, movement innovation and artistic self-discovery. This three-day combo dance intensive offers 4 hours per day over 3 days (including a break for lunch).

Stepping Out features a diverse line up of technical disciplines, including Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hop Hop. Students will likewise experience the strength and flexibility of Yoga, while also enjoying the trendy theatrics of the Broadway and Theatre sections.
